                                    Post graduate course:
                                    Abiotic stress
                                    from signaling to cell death

In August , we are organizing a graduate course in abiotic stress in Umea, Sweden. The course is organized within the Swedish National Graduate School in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology, and it will take place at the Umea Plant Science Centre 11-19 August. We will also have a two-day symposium taking place at a small village called Hallnas in the middle of the wilderness right at the beautiful Vindel river (http://www.umu.se/service/kronlund/).

The idea behind the course is that several aspects of abiotic stress will be covered by invited expert lecturers. The graduate students will also get acquainted with various functional genomics tools (transcript profiling, proteomics and metabolomics) and how these can be used to solve questions in the abiotic stress research.  Umea Plant Science Centre researchers will teach and guide the students with hands-on exercises and demonstrations. The number of graduate students taking part in the entire course will be ca 25. The lectures will be open, and we expect up to 50 attendants, with a mixture of graduate students and their supervisors.

We hope that this course will stimulate interesting discussions about abiotic stress with vivid exchange of ideas and suggestions that will inspire and motivate the graduate students in their research.
